Anette Hoffmann, Badische Zeitung

Gravity is followed by falling: Following the dance exploration of gravity (“A Pebble Falling on an Silent Lake,” 2023), the Freiburg-based company VAYA (Artistic Director/Choreographer Tina Halford) explores the physics of falling. The new piece “viendo viento” treats falling as a dynamic process, not as a moment of failure, but as the origin of new kinetic energy and as a poetic act of constant transformation. The wave-inspired, walkable stage design allows for a provocative dialogue with gravity. The four dancers experiment with kinetics as a source of acrobatic movement compositions. In a virtuoso and poetic way, the limits of physical possibility are explored, and falling is portrayed as a perpetual cycle of transformation. The stage becomes a dance partner, the space is explored vertically. Unusual and fascinating images emerge that challenge the audience’s perception. The dizzying dance is accompanied by an interplay of sound design and light. “viendo viento” is a dance piece that celebrates the power of the unpredictable and shows how a new equilibrium can emerge from the apparent loss of stability, even in movement.
